Wine - shaped by history and continuity

De Muller builds its wines on a continuous history dating back to 1851, combining long-standing traditions with a broad and controlled range. The result is a portfolio defined by time, origin, and a consistent approach to quality across both classic and modern styles.

De Muller was founded in 1851 by Don Augusto de Muller y Ruinart de Brimont, originating from a well-established Alsatian wine family with connections to the Champagne house Ruinart. The family recognised early the potential of Tarragona, following a tradition of winemaking in the region dating back to Roman and Greek times.

From its beginnings, the winery became known for its sweet sacramental wines and was officially recognised as a supplier to the Vatican, maintaining this role across multiple papacies. This connection reflects a level of continuity and trust rarely found in modern wine production.

A defining element of the house is its long-standing solera system, including wines maintained continuously over generations. Certain stocks trace back to the original production, where wine is drawn and replenished, preserving a direct link between past and present.

Originally located in the city of Tarragona, production was moved in the late 1990s to Mas de Valls in Reus, following the acquisition by the Martorell family. The move allowed for modern facilities while maintaining the historical cellars and ageing systems.

The range extends across several appellations and styles:

  • Still wines from D.O. Tarragona and D.O.Q. Priorat
  • Traditional vermouths rooted in Reus, a historical centre of vermouth production
  • Soleras and fortified wines, developed over extended periods
  • Sparkling wines, produced outside the Cava framework, prioritising method over designation

Rather than focusing on classification alone, De Muller maintains a consistent philosophy—continuity, controlled ageing, and respect for origin, applied across all levels of the range.

Designed for gastronomy, wine retail, and professional use, where history, structure, and consistency define the final expression.
